Succession plantings every 2 to 3 weeks is recommended for continual harvest. Harvest pumpkin fruits when the rind is hard and orange in color. \u003c\/p\u003e  \u003cp\u003eA warm-season vegetable, sensitive to cold temperatures and frost, it can be direct sown into warm spring soil after all danger of frost has passed and soil temperature is 58° to 60°F, but plants can also be started indoors and transplanted. Flowers begin to set fruit with night temperatures between 55° and 75°F. Protect plants if temperatures are expected to dip below 50°F. Mulching helps to control weeds, moderate soil temperature, and to maintain soil moisture.
