Description / Hibiscus Summerific® 'Holy Grail' Rose Mallow
Hibiscus Summerific® 'Holy Grail' Rose Mallow is a hardy perennial hibiscus that pairs deep red, 8 to 9 inch flowers with nearly black, oval foliage. Blooming from midsummer into early fall, the saturated red flowers and green calyxes stand out boldly against the dark purple leaves. This upright, fast growing plant reaches about 4.5 feet tall and 5 feet wide, making a dramatic statement each summer.
Use 'Holy Grail' as a focal point in borders and beds, or plant it in bog and rain gardens where consistent moisture is available. Bees and butterflies visit the large blooms. For striking companions, try Agastache, Panicum, Penstemon, and Sedum, which add contrasting textures around its summer show. Plant in full sun to part shade in moist, well drained, acidic soil; it tolerates soils from poor to fertile. Provide average, consistent moisture throughout the season.
